Snow melted slabs such as bridges, ramps, sidewalks, drives, helidecks and stairs maintain building operations during severe weather.
Delta-Therm recommends the use of mineral insulated (MI) cable systems for embedded snow melting/deicing applications.
MI cable is the only electric system not to require a GFI (approximately $300 per circuit) when embedded in a noncombustable medium.
DELTA THERM FULLY FACTORY TERMINATED MI CABLE
One Conductor Cable Assembly (jacketed)
Copper MI with HDPE jacketing Voltage range 120-480V
Cable spacing and heat output are determined by each project.
Snow Melt Mats
Delta-Therm snow melt mats are designed for residential and commercial installations in either concrete or asphalt.
For use in new installations or in repaving applications, mats are available in a variety of widths and lengths. A wide range of voltages can also be specified.
Snow melt mats work well for small rectangular areas such as sidewalks and handicap ramps, (Requires ground fault protection).
The mats are constructed of silicone jacketed resistance wire attached to a high density polyethylene substrate.
The cable consists of a high-tensile-strength alloy conductor wrapped with 4mil Kapton. The conductor is encased in silicone rubber
rated at 150 degrees C. An aluminum braid, equivalent to 16 AWG, is woven over the promary insulation to serve as a ground path.
Another layer of silicone rubber is extruded over the aluminum braid to provide additional electrical insulation.
Nominal watt density is 50 watts per square foot.
A wide range of voltages can be specified.
Standard widths are 18" and 36". Custom sizes are available.
Step mats are also available. Snow melt mats should be controlled by SMC controls.
